Conference on Indonesian Foreign Policy 2017; Commemorating ASEAN 50th Anniversary

Saturday, October 21 2017 – Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) once again had succeeded held the Conference on Indonesian Foreign Policy 2017 (CIFP 2017) under the theme of “Win – Winning ASEAN, Conquering Globalization.” which is aligned with the commemoration of the 50th Years of ASEAN. CIFP is an open, independent, and non-political forum provided a complete package of public discussion forum which attended by the international to national well-known speaker and experts. In 2017, the conference focused on the ASEAN relevancy to today’s international and regional condition as well as the future challenges that ASEAN may face and what are the recipes to counter it. In the opening speech, Ambassador Dino Patti Djalal as the founder of FPCI pointed out the “recipes” needed to ASEAN to maintain its relevancy and capability within the region by Equality, Pragmatism, Trust and Leadership. He later mentioned the challenges that ASEAN may face in future such losing the dynamism and direction, losing the coherence and the threat of globalization.

Indonesian foreign affairs minister, H.E. Retno Marsudi expressed her gratitude on the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, the minister later delivered her speech concerning the capability of ASEAN as the platform for Southeast Asia countries to become the strong regional cooperation ever by valuing its ASEAN ways. ASEAN ways, which H.E Retno explained has the main values; unity, centrality, and solidarity which she later emphasized that the people is the centre of ASEAN. CIFP 2017 was also completed by cultural to educational stands from European Union, Embassy of Canada, Embassy of Australia, Indonesia National Defense Force Peacekeeping Centre, and many more. CIFP 2017 is not only broadening our knowledge about the existing ASEAN issues but also challenges us to think beyond the measure in answering any possible challenges in the future.
