IR Book Review : “To Infinity and Beyond: Cosmopolitanism in International Relations”

IRPRESUNIV.ORG, CIKARANG  ̶  Thursday (24/5), the International Relations Study Program of President University conducted a Book Review entitled “To Infinity and Beyond: Cosmopolitanism in International Relations”. The Book Review also had a special guest, the distinguished authors themselves, Dr. phil. Reza Alexander Antonius Wattimena and Prof. A. A. Banyu Perwita, Ph.D.

The event started with the opening remarks by the Dean of Faculty of Humanities of President University, Mr. Drs. Teuku Rezasyah, Ph.D., and continued with a short introduction of the book itself by Dr. phil. Reza Alexander Antonius Wattimena. Mr. Reza explained the terminology of cosmopolitan, adopted from Greek word, cosmopolities, which means the citizen of the world. What Mr. Reza highlights was that it is important for us to understand that we are the citizen of the universe, and that cannot be changed. Cosmopolitanism tries to go to the root of the real identity before social constructivisim exist. Mr. Reza later explained that the practice of cosmopolitanism is ideal in which it can be applied to reality, the examples are to create soft border between countries yet not borderless and the abstract concept of illegal imigrant due to the fact that humans are part of the universe despite of the social construct.

The General Lecture was attended by approximately 200 students of International Relations Study Program, the Head of International Relations Study Program, Mr. Hendra Manurung S.IP., M.A., and the International Relations lecturers of President University: Mr. Anggara Raharyo, Mr. I Gusti Bagus Dharma Agastia, BA.IR., M.Sc., Mr. Bustanul Arifin BA.IR., MA, Ms. Isyana Adriani, BA., M.Si., and Mr. Riski M. Baskoro, S.Sos., MA.
