What is IHL Debate Competition?
International Humanitarian Law Debate Competition is an annual debate competition which organised by the Regional Delegation of Red Cross (ICRC) for Indonesia and Timor-Leste. This event is one of the most prestigious national level debate competitions that is held by ICRC and the selected university in Indonesia to promote awareness about International Humanitarian Law for the society mainly for university's students. This year, ICRC chose the International Relations Department of President University to cooperate as the Organising Committee of this competition.
This competition is exclusively for international relations students of universities across Indonesia. The competition will use English as the official working language. This competition will be held on August 18th-20th 2017 in President University.

What is IHL?
International Humanitarian Law (IHL) is part of international law. IHL is also known as law of warfare or law of armed conflict. It is aimed to seek for humanitarian reasons, to limit the effects of armed conflict.
What does IHL protect?
It protects persons who are not or no longer participating in hostilities and restricts the means and methods of warfare.
Where will IHL be applied?
It applies to armed conflicts. It does not regulate whether a state may use actual force; this is governed by an important, but distinct, part of international law set out in the UN Charter.
