Embassy Visit 2017: Feel the Western Vibes in the Embassy of United States of America

IRPRESUNIV.ORG, CIKARANG ̶ On the 27th of March 2017, the students of International Relations President University had the opportunity to take part in another Embassy Visit. This time the students of International Relations had the chance to visit the Embassy of the United States of America in Jakarta. This visit was participated by 60 students from various batch and was accompanied by Mr. Hendra Manurung as the Head of International Relations Study Program and Mr. Bustanul Arifin as one of the lecturers.

The participants reached the embassy at 09.00 a.m. at the Annex building in which the presentations about the embassy had taken place. There were several speakers. The first was John, he is the spokesperson for the embassy, he opened the series of presentations by talking about perceptions that Indonesians had to the United States and vice versa. The second speaker was Aaron; he deals with the more political side of things, as he mentioned himself as a “Practitioner of International Relations”. The third speaker was Sarah; she deals with the economy, such as trade relations and delivered a Fun fact that the biggest U.S. export to Indonesia is soybean. After that, some remarks were given by Mr. Hendra Manurung expressing his gratitude for the opportunity to talk about US-Indonesia relations.

After Aaron and Sarah left the room the next speaker, Karen came. She is the cultural attaché; in her presentations she mainly talked about scholarships opportunities in the United States such as the government sponsored LPDP scholarships, the Fulbright Foreign Student Program, and Prestasi. She also threw in some fun quizzes for good measure. After she had her time, a photo session was taken place.

Then after that, a quick rundown MyAmerica was given. Basically. It is a state-of-the-art facility where everyone can do research and seek for information. One of the things she recommends people to do is to work on thesis when they are in MyAmerica. It is open for the public as long as you make an appointment at least one-day in advance. Before leaving, participants had a chance to explore the aforementioned facility, other than plenty of books and magazines, there were a 3d printer, a 3Doodler, Lego Mindstorms, littleBits kits, several iMacs, and shelves of DVDs & board games. That tour marked the end of the visit.
