Embassy of Mongolia Open Day: Mongolia and Indonesia in Diplomatic Relations

IRPRESUNIV.ORG, CIKARANG  ̶  Since it was first established in 2014, Mongolian Embassy in Jakarta made its second visit to President University. With the theme “Mongolia-Indonesia Relations: Public Diplomacy and Closer Cooperation in Millennium”, Embassy of Mongolia organized a Mongolia Open Day in Charles Himawan Auditorium, President University, Jababeka, Cikarang, on Thursday (17/2/2017).

The open day was officially opened by Mongolian Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia and ASEAN, Shagdar Battsetseg who delivered a speech about the general overview of Mongolia and Indonesia cooperation. She explained in brief the history of two countries’ bilateral relations in 60 years. Following her remarks, Protocol Officer G. Tumurkhuu outlined how is the Mongolian education system in his presentation. He stated, “There was no systematized education until Mongolian’s revolution in 1921”. He also added that the first university was built in 1942, and since then, Mongolian education system keeps developing up until now. Continuing the event, Technicians O. Khulan described Mongolia’s environment and culinary with amazing photos and videos.

The event was heated up by a quiz given by Shagdar Battsetseg, the participants competed each other to answer the question coming from her in order to get a special prize which was books about the relationship between Mongolia and Indonesia. From the simplest question, such as where is Mongolia located to the rather difficult one, such as why there are so many horses in Mongolia. The winner is Denisa Amelia Kawuryan from International Relations Batch 2015, she answered that there are so many horses in Mongolia because of the nomadic tradition of the Mongolian people. The horses have always played an important role in Mongolian daily life, they need horses to move from one place to another place. Battsetseg continued to explain the cultural differences between Mongolians and Indonesians, in her opinion Indonesians have soft characters meanwhile Mongolians got an ambitious character. “Mongolian has the spirit or way of life that was passed down from the Genghis Khan,” she said. However, with this cultural differences, Mongolia and Indonesia maintain good relationship without any conflict.

One of the real prove of the development in Mongolia and Indonesia relationship is in President University, where Zorigt Tugsjargal currently pursuing his higher education, is the first Mongolian student who study in President University because the university provides him with full scholarship. He took a chance to deliver his speech and stated “As the first Mongolian student, I will be the bridge between Mongolia and Indonesia”, which received a big applause from the audience.
